Meet Anitra Davel
In 1983 I completed my BA (Law) at Wits and then decided to pursue one of my other passions. I enrolled at Tshwane University of Technology and completed a degree in Musical Theatre. While I loved my career in the performing arts and was privileged to be involved in many exciting productions, it was not until 2006 when I gave birth to Cian, my son, that I realised that my journey not only as a parent, but my true calling had just begun.
Those first few minutes with my precious baby remain the most treasured moments of my life and I knew then that I wanted to work with women and become a facilitator in their birthing experience. I became a doula (birthing companion) as well as qualifying as a pre- and post natal exercise instructor and presentsexercise classes at Tina Otte's Family and Child Centre in Randburg. The more I worked in this environment, the more I realised that I wanted not only to be part of the birthing process, but that I also wanted to work in early childhood education, with the Moms and their babies.
The Mothers and Miracles programme was the next step in order for me to fulfill my dream. Now, everyday, I get to combine my passion for creative exploration and artistic expression while inspiring Moms to enhance their maternal bond with their babies, while actively stimulating the physical, intellectual and emotional growth of their babies/toddlers in fun and creative ways.
